GCSE
The General Certificate of Education (GCSE) is an essential step in the education ladder. It is the strongest influence on the choice of subjects to be studied at A-Level and in higher education. British Universities will normally require that students achieve 5 or more GCSE passes, which must include English and Mathematics.
Regent College prides itself on the care and attention that GCSE students receive to ensure that they do not just pass examinations but develop their study and revision skills that will prove invaluable as they progress through the education system.
GCSE tuition is conducted in small classes so that the students can enjoy individual care and feedback and on top of this Regent College ensures that the progress of each student is carefully monitored. Parents receive an unparalleled level of feedback from the College in the form of regular student progress reports
Most GCSE courses require students to complete and submit coursework. At Regent College the teachers are very aware of the demands placed upon students in this respect and offer expert guidance so that students can complete all assignments to the required standard.
A-Levels
A-Levels are the main public examinations taken by
students in England and Wales and they retain the reputation
as the prestigious and most widely recognised qualification
that students can take before entering University.
Entry in to Oxford, Cambridge or any other high calibre university is dependent on successfully completing the
A-Level Courses.
Regent College is a centre for three English examination
boards: AQA, EDEXCEL and OCR. The College selects the
board for each subject that is best suited to the needs
of our students.
The normal approach for students taking the 2-year
course at Regent College is to take four subjects in
the first year, which culminates in the A/S examinations,
and then convert three of them in to A2 qualifications
in the second year. However, students can also join Regent
College in the A2 year and transfer their previous results
or join the intensive A-Level programme. The A-Level intensive
course is designed for students who wish to
retake their examinations for those who are exceptionally
hard working and have excellent secondary school qualifications
or for mature students who wish to complete their studies
in a shorter period of time. The A/S material is covered
in time for the January examination session and the
A2 material is completed in preparation for the June
examination session, enabling students wishing to repeat
only the A2 examinations to join in January.
The combination of imaginative and lively teaching,
examination practice and small group
instruction proves a powerful formula for success -
leaving students with the grades they need to go forward
into higher education with confidence.
